Sawasdee Jao – A Northern Thai Greeting
Lanna, literally meaning a “million rice fields”, is an old kingdom, rich with northern Thai culture, history, and culinary art. We are delighted to partly reflect this feature in our restaurant by northern objects d’art and handicrafts.
A major tributary that keeps Lanna fertile and nurtures the economic life of her people is the Mae Ping river.
For centuries, northern Thai hospitality, which principally stems from the teaching of Buddhism can be easily found in all walks of life. For instance, water jars are situated in front of houses in small villages for thirsty travellers. Guests are cordially invited by the “hosts” to join their meals, as food is abundant.
Our aim since Mae Ping Thai Restaurant opened its doors over a decade ago is to serve exquisite Thai cuisine from various parts of Thailand with high quality ingredients to blend with that famous northern Thai hospitality.
We hope that “our guests” enjoy the “Mae Ping” experience.
